What an electric fence is actually for
An electric fence is a deterrent and an alarm before it is anything else. The shock is unpleasant and not dangerous, and the point of it is that somebody decides against your wall and goes elsewhere. The more useful half is the alarm: a properly installed fence tells you the moment a wire is cut or shorted, which a wall on its own never does.
This is also why installation quality decides whether it works. A fence with the wrong energizer for its length, or with poor earthing, either nuisance trips all night or sits there doing nothing. Earthing is the part most often done badly, and it is invisible until the fence fails to alarm.
The PRO 2-joule kit
The energizer is the unit that puts the pulse on the wire, and its joule rating is what decides how much fence it can drive. The Sparkx PRO is a 2-joule kit, which covers a house wall or a small commercial perimeter, and it ships as a kit with the tags rather than as a bare box.
Sizing it is the part worth getting right. An energizer working at the top of its range on a long run has nothing left for wet vegetation touching the wire, which is when a fence starts tripping at three in the morning. We work the length out on site before quoting.
Monitoring it from a phone
Wi-Fi and GSM are both built into the PRO, so the fence reaches a phone through the Sparkx app rather than only sounding a siren nobody is standing next to. GSM matters more than it sounds: it keeps working when the site's internet is down, which is often the same moment somebody is on the wall.
On a site with a caretaker rather than a guard room, that is usually the feature that pays for itself.
